Paul Hellyer, Canada’s Defence Minister from 1963-67, stunned many when he made a speech at a university in September. He stated "ufos are as real as the airplanes flying over your head." Hellyer went on to claim that the United States is building a base on the moon and may be gearing up for an intergallactic war.
His speech prompted three non-government groups to call for a special hearing on E.T.s. In early November 2005, the Canadian Senate wrote ICIS, indicating the Senate Committee could not hold hearings on ETs in 2005, because of their already crowded schedule.
