i had to come back and rant...you know what erks me?....its all these prisoners who "find God" and want to change the world after they did something terriable to someone or there family...why dont they put all there efforts into it when they were out in the real world...nope, thats because they are behind bars, and there is nothing for them to do there. |

I agree with you tweeti.I think finding God behind bars has become cliche.I am sort of torn on the death penalty.I know it wont bring his victims back but they didnt get the chance to win nobel prizes because they were murdered for being at work when he wanted to rob it. |

Had he not done the things he did and gone to prison , he never would have won the Nobel Prize, turned anti-violence, and written children's books. He had the opportunity to change his life and make a difference in someone else's. He's done that. Maybe it's what he was meant to do in life and now that it's done, his work on earth is finished. You gotta think of things as a "chain reaction" sort of idea. I see it as this was what was meant to happen, therefore it did. He should be executed for the murders as he's no different than any other death row inmate in the eyes of the judicial system, no matter how many big name celebrities are backing you. |

I was just thinking about this the other day. I guess to me the more logical thought would be to uphold his current sentance; do the crime, do the time. I think it's very sad that he will most likely be executed, because he appears to have seen the light, but it IS too late. It doesn't change the fact that what he did was wrong. I think if he is given a stay, then it's setting an example for other inmates that hey, all I gotta do is convince people that I'm changed and I'll be saved. |

Good post and I think I agree mostly with what Dark Crow is saying. The only thing is that this man did go a LONG way in the covnincing department in my opinion. I think it should be a case by case decision, but maybe this man should get his stay. Just my opinion, though. -KT |

Rather than execute him maybe his new found passion for things could be used to good use within the prison system. |

I agree with Kurt too. I see no reason to let him go free, but if he can do some good in life, then allow him to do it. And contrary to popular belief, there are some that have been in jail and prison that when they say they have found God, they actually have taken God out of prison with them, instead of doing like most do and leave God in prison where they found him. |

Thats some good points too.I won't be upset if his sentence is commuted.I won't be happy if he is executed but I wont fell an injustice was done either.Although he only was convicted of murdering 4 people he founded a street gang that has killed thousands. |

I've always been in favor of the death penalty as a deterrant. However, if for any good reason it can be overturned, I'm for it as well. In this case, the death penalty changed this guy... geez, how many people can go from murderer to Nobel Prize in the same life, while in jail, no less? I think this is unique and should be overturned. If he can maintain doing good for the world in response to the evils he's committed, then I believe that's what our CORRECTIONAL systems are intended to achieve. If jurors and the judge would have known that this guy had the propensity to do what he's doing now, I don't think he would have ever gotten the death penalty. Not to mention, if he goes, what's that saying to other Gang members? That there is a time when it's too late to change? That you can't overcome you're life's mistakes? That you will die a violent death, it's not a matter of how but when? That no matter what you do, you will always be defined by your crimes? |

Incidentally, we're not going to stop gang violence by killing off gang members... they're doing a nifty job of that themselves for years and has gotten us no where. The only way is to reform the gang society and gang mentality by reforming it's members and it's neighborhoods. It's a long road, this would be a big step. |

I read that he has alledgedly been running the gang through prison though. Two of his sons are in prison now and one of them is a high ranking member of the crips. Also I think that when your crime is murder you should be defined by it forever.Just my opinion |
