ARE YOU CELEBRATING HANUKKAH?

  Author:  10798  Category:(Interesting) Created:(12/8/2004 4:19:00 PM)

I'm just wondering how many of our USM friends are celebrating Hanukkah this year? Are you using an oil menorah or one with candles; is it homemade or store bought? Do you say the blessings in Hebrew when you light the candles? This is my second year of celebrating Hanukkah and I think it's absolutely wonderful...as is everything about the Jewish faith. And, YES I can say the blessings in Hebrew!

How it changed my life:

I love Judaism!

Date: 12/8/2004 4:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    I'm not celebrating Hanukkah but a Jewish co-worker is. I looked at your profile that says that you are Christian. I've heard of a few Christian groups that are starting to celebrate the Jewish holy days. Can you tell me why? Just curious.
Date: 12/8/2004 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 47618    I think the celebrating Jewish festivals while Christian comes from the fact that our lord and saviour was Christian himself and it was a staple of belief system till post-Jesus.
Date: 12/8/2004 6:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Actually...I don't really consider myself Christian anymore in the traditional sense of the word. I lean very heavily toward Judaism in my faith.
Date: 12/8/2004 6:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Seeker, I think you mean to say that Jesus was Jewish..not Christian, and yet He was indeed and He celebrated Hanukkah and Passover...all the traditional festivals.
Date: 12/8/2004 6:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    I became interested in Judiasm because I have encountered so much phoniness in the world of traditional Christianity. And, I have discovered that there is a whole world of things we gentiles are not taught about the Bible. In addition there is a lot of mistranslation and misinterpretation of the Hebrew Bible by the Christian world.

Date: 12/13/2004 9:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 28989    I'm not Jewish either, but I worked in a Kosher-style deli for 18 years! (That, in part, means that all of the food was kosher, but we used only one slicer for both the meat and the cheese instead of two separate slicers.) I got to learn a lot about the Jewish faith and developed a strong appetite for bagels, lox, cream cheese and even beet borscht with sour cream. (Now I've made myself hungry....) Happy Hannukah!
