LOVE is the true message of THE PASSION....please everybody read

  Author:  10798  Category:(Religious) Created:(3/3/2004 2:46:00 PM)

I’m just one person..a very small and insignificant person at that. There are limits to what I can do, what I can accomplish...who I can reach. I wish I could write such an eloquent piece and state my cause so effectively that the whole world would read and take notice..but alas, my voice has always been soft, and even if I scream at the top of my lungs I’m afraid I will be drowned out by the noise of people going about their own affairs..unconcerned and unaware.

The message I want to get across is one of love and tolerance, of breaking down the barriers of misunderstanding and mistrust that divides people and replacing that with a bridge of compassion, acceptance and unconditional love. What started me thinking this way? What brought me to tears yesterday and kept me awake most of the night last night?

I went to synagogue yesterday. No, I’m not Jewish; I’m a Christian who loves God with all my heart and all my strength. I attend synagogue very regularly, while also continuing to attend church on a weekly basis as well. I find there is beauty and truth in both forms of worship. I’ve been drawn to Judaism because that is where God’s relationship with mankind really began. The earliest Christians and even Christ Himself were Jews who kept the holy days ordained by God and His holy torah given to them through Moses on Mt. Sinai. Christianity down through the years has distanced itself more and more from it’s Jewish roots, adopting some other symbols and rituals and developing some of it’s own until it hardly resembles Judaism at all. The true, Jewish roots of my faith have been calling to me and I’ve responded by studying Hebrew, learning about Jewish worship and making some wonderful Jewish friends whom I love with all my heart, so when something is perceived as a threat to my Jewish friends, it bothers me very deeply.

In synagogue yesterday, something was brought up and discussed openly after the Torah reading that tore my heart out. You may have guessed that the subject was Mel Gibson’s newly released movie, "The Passion." My Jewish friends have concerns that the violence in this movie might cause incidents of violence against them. "It can’t happen," you might say....but, can you say that with absolute surety? My Jewish friends’ concerns come from 2,000 years of Christian zealots trying to wipe them off the face of the earth. Their concerns are based in taunts of "Christ killer" remembered from their school days and from lifelong episodes of verbal taunts and attacks from co-workers and neighbors, all good, church-going citizens who live right here in this country. The sad truth is that some people do blame the Jews for Christ’s death.

Personally, I have never heard a minister stand in the pulpit and come right out and blame the Jews for Jesus’ death. Perhaps I have just been lucky in that way, because I’m sure it must have happened somewhere. The emphasis in revival meetings and Easter morning services has always been that Jesus died willingly...that his great compassion for a sinful world led Him to the cross and held Him there; that every one of us, that means YOU, ME and all those who have ever lived are responsible for Him having to die, and that God the Father sent Him here solely for that purpose...to die for all of us...to be the sacrifice for our sins so that through His sacrifice we could be ftruly forgiven and have a place in Heaven. That’s where the emphasis should be, was always meant to be. The movie, "The Passion," focuses primarily on the suffering of Christ...how terrible it was, how badly He was treated, and I’m afraid the true message of God’s love for mankind will get lost in the graphic violence and horror movie quality torture scenes. I am afraid that non-Christians will get the wrong message from this movie and indeed might commit acts of violence against my Jewish friends, for surely a true Christian would not have such thoughts or dream of doing such a thing, would he? Surely a true Christian would know that Jesus is not seeking vengeance through them for His death. After all, He tells us in the Gospel of John in His own words,

John 10 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

What worries me is those who already have latent feelings of hatred toward Jews. It seems some people just need somebody to hate, and the Jews are a good target for them, so they might use this movie as an excuse to be mean...to do harm.

I call upon all Christians to pray that only good things will come from this movie, that nobody will use it as an excuse for violence against another human being in the name of Jesus. Sadly, it’s happened many times before....we can’t let it happen again. I call upon pastors to emphasize that Jesus’s death was a willing SACRIFICE, and that He laid his life DOWN...nobody took it from Him. He did it out of LOVE for all of us, and he commanded that we love one another as He loved us. Most importantly, we must not forget that HE ISN’T DEAD. He rose again from the dead. We should be celebrating His LIFE and His kingship which are eternal...not his suffering which was temporary.

Don’t let the true message of pure LOVE be obscured or even lost for the sake of a movie filmed primarily to shock people with it’s violent content. Don’t let the LOVE be lost. Tell your friends...pass it on! LOVE was Jesus' true passion!

After reading the bible Ima read the koran and then maybe the torah . People who hate just harm themselves . Its so much more cool to give and receive the love ! Razzy aka
Date: 2/29/2004 8:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 11097    This is an excellent post, and I am very glad I read it. Yes, it is very true indeed, the passion of Jesus was true, unconditional love. Only God knows the grand design to life, and Jesus knew His defeat of death and resurrection would save us all. I carry that love deep within my heart, and try very hard to "love one another" but the truth is, it isn't a very difficult thing to do. See, when we strip away religion and only look at the underlining faith, there is a common thread, and that thread is love, and it connects us all. I agree, spread this love. I am going to see The Passion in a couple of hours, I have heard good things and bad things, but I want to see it for myself. I have no hatred for any religion, my stepmother and her family are Jewish, our family is Christian. And as a family, we all accept and love each other. Thanks for sharing, the introduction really hit home for me...sounds a bit like my feelings, keep writing!

Date: 2/29/2004 11:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    I agree with you, it can happen. I think mel gibson is trying to do a good thing and I applaude him for it, but on the other hand, could this be the one thing that would set nations off to be hatefull toward the jews and israel? I mean even in the bible doesnt it say something about all nations will come against israel? I pray that the message mel is trying to give comes across and that those that really dont understand that the jewish people are God people, wont come against them.

Date: 2/29/2004 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    I don't think that you are small or insignificant at all, SongBird. You stated your concern with skill and eloquence. Thanks for the enjoyable read. Write on....
Date: 2/29/2004 8:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 19460    We all (all of makind) had a hand in killing Jesus. It was us that He died for. I feel ashamed and greatful all at the same time. Thanks for the post. Maybe it will get the message out to those here who don't understand God's gift.
Date: 2/29/2004 9:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Thank you. I have to try and do what I can and hope that it makes a small difference somewhere.
Date: 3/1/2004 10:17:00 AM  ( Admin )   I can only add (the old testament says in Isaiah 53 5 "he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. "
It was prophesized that the Christ would die for our sins. How did he do this, he endured tortures and pains beyond our understanding and did not hate or even be angry but he loved each of us and forgave all of us. Think of your brother and sisters no matter what they do or have done, forgive them and be an example of what love is and what Jesus died to demonstrate. Think about what he said, "forgive them for they know not what they do". Why did he say this, God already knew this is how he felt, and even then why did he say it out loud. Not for God to hear but for us so that it would be recorded for our ears. Hear those words, feel that love, forgive and be an example also.
Date: 3/1/2004 11:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 54247    Bless you for posting this one. I, too, am very supportive of the Jewish friends I have known over the years. I did see the movie last week - and, actually, I felt it was the Romans at that time - yes, the Rabbis did promote it - but, obviously the beatings and horrible torture were the Roman soldiers - war and occupation was very severe in those days. Jesus came to open Heaven up for all of us - even, the Romans. It was a disturbing movie - but really needed to be shared. RAT
Date: 3/1/2004 11:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 12084    Thank you for this post. It is so True and heart felt. I personaly love the Jews, Like you I feel such a connection with them. They killed our Lord, in no great of manner than we the gentiles killed him. All of mankind had a hand in Crucifying him. He Loves us all, Gave his life for all, so that all might see what pure unselfish love he has for all mankind. It was said that Mel Gibson's hand was the hand that was holding the nail that pierced the hands of the Actor who played the saviors part. I think, this was a way for Mel Gibson to show to all our Jewish brethren, that he too, took part in killing our Lord. I pray that no further persecutions come to anyone for the causes of Christ suffering. He paid the Price for us all, lets let the pain stop. Love all, according to Christ' example.
Date: 3/1/2004 12:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 30051    This is one of the best post's I have ever read. Thank you Song Bird!
Date: 3/1/2004 2:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 49498    I just think we should all respect eachothers beliefs, and there would be a lot more peace in the world. But that will never happen so why am I even talking?
Date: 3/1/2004 2:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    Amen...I Agree Wholeheartedly with You..
I haven't seen the movie yet, but have felt from all the interviews of Mel Gibson and the actors in general..

I feel Mel Gibson has Good Intentions, Obviously...

I will also Pray that Only Good will come from this film...I agree that we should Also Most Definetly Celebrate Jesus being Alive...Praise God He IS Alive..., and Yes He did not have to die..He did this Willingly His Blood at Calvary Cleansed Our sins...

He Surely Could Have Called Legions Of Angels To Render The Eastern Skies To The West...HeCould have Been Set Free...

Yet, Instead He died in Our Place...Then Arose Again... Because of His Sacrifice., His Love...We All can Be Saved... to say that we are All responsible.., in a sense I agree.., but, there was No Other Perfect Sacrifice...No Other Without sin.... He Loved Us All So Much,, He took Our Place.....That IS Love.. God Bless...Thank You for Sharing this.... and BTW, I think Your writing and Choice of words are Very Eloquent, Speak Out., You never know who you may reach, All it takes is One Voice, it can make All the Difference in this world....T/C....

Date: 3/1/2004 3:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Songbird-this is so true. <Your sweet spirit shines through with every post you make > I saw this movie again last night with my 19-year old daughter & her fiance Joe. (My son Jon came with us, too). This was the second time for Jon & I. The movie is so powerful. I remeber when the Apostles were arguing about who was the "Greatest" among them, Jesus told them that the Greatest Commandment was "Love Thy Neighbor (as Thyself)". Jesus whole sacrifice was based on Love. This is one of the best posts I have read here on USM
Date: 3/1/2004 3:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    I will disagree with one thing you have said, my friend, you are not insignificant. In fact, you teach by example. Brightest Blessings to you, my friend!
Date: 3/1/2004 3:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 12862    Super post Songbird!!! I saw the movie and cried to see what Jesus went through for us. I don't blame the Jewish people or any religion. Jesus Loves ALL people. Hugs,
Date: 3/1/2004 4:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 5818    I wanna believe that this movie will lead people to God and have them understand what he went through for us and how much he love us to take our sins away after giving up his only son.
It might be painfull to watch even though I have not seen it my self but i know what God did for me and my family and I love him for it.

Date: 3/1/2004 5:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Thank you all so very much. I think you're the greatest bunch of people in the whole world.
Date: 3/1/2004 6:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 59001    Thank You for this great post, I to saw the movie, and believe he died for our sins, nothing more nothing less, for our sins alone.
Date: 3/1/2004 10:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 62487    Thank you soo much for sharing, for I could feel your love of CHRIST in your words and heart as you spoke, I know that some people want even chose to do wrong regaurdless of the reasons, so I will pray that GODS WILL be done with this movie....take care and may GOD be with us all...tamara
Date: 3/1/2004 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Jesus, Son Of God, so written in the bible, had one message to the world. I haven't seen "The Passion" and I won't, but I know very well, what that message was. It was clear, precise and even though I have no religious affilliation, the message is still clear, still strong, and I know precisely what Jesus' true passion was. Perhaps Mel Gibson will take it as far as Christ, to "give unto others, as they would give, unto you". The need is there, world hunger, medicine, education. We will see where and what the "divine" message truely is, and how it, given the power to "bring together" and help mankind will truely "help". I hope, but have much doubt.
Date: 3/1/2004 10:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 12581    This is a lovely post..I must admit, I am not a Christian. I am a believer in God though, but I do not believe in religion...simply because so many people have fought so many wars over differing opinions of him & it breaks my heart that people kill in his name. With my personal beliefs, I feel that Christ was a very special person, who brought a messege of love and God did send him to spread love, hope, & beauty. But I also believe that he was not the only person God has sent to spread love & understanding, since there have been others, in different parts of the world, who have carried many of the same messeges, love, peace, respecting one another & so on. I guess I have just always tried to keep a very open mind when it comes to religion although at times I find this hard & this is when I turn to God. You are so right, it would be a tragedy if people were to hurt one another over this movie when it is supposed to be a tribute to all he endured for his faith & for us. Thanks for sharing your heartfelt tribute of your own to us, for me, this is the sort of stuff, spreading understanding & acceptence, that God finds beautiful. Oh & one more thing, you are so significant, everyone's voice is equally important & valueable. Thanks for sharing & Take Care!
Date: 3/2/2004 3:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 54441    I couldn't agree more!...this is one of the best posts ever! *bookmark* *hugs*
Date: 3/2/2004 5:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 5349    The bible says no one religion is entirely true. You have to search. That's cool that you go to two different kinds of worships. Awesome.
Date: 3/2/2004 5:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 27215    My dear friend, you have did really well with writing this and bringing out the true meaning and you are right. The intent of this movie is to show people that they should love everyone just as Christ himself did and still does. Jesus loves us all equally and we aren't deserving of his love but he gives it to us freely. I pray that this movie shows the world more love and not more hate because the world has enough of that already. This is a very very good post and I hope that everyone reads it and takes it to heart. Much love and prayers..............
Date: 3/2/2004 7:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 20575    Jesus did not die for me. He did not die for my mother nor did he for my father or any other of my family members for that matter. By all means, anybody can believe in whatever they want to believe, but I hate when people thrust their beliefs onto others. I think the message was Anti-Semitism. Go ahead and delete my response. It'll prove how the world feels towards Jews. Mel Gibson's father has blatantly said that the Holocaust never happened. Mel Gibson has been asked the question, and magically manages to change the subject... He was asked: "So, Mel, you're on the record. Did the Holocaust Happen?" (Response): Basically, Mel went on to say that people die all the time, such as in Armenia and in Rwanda etc. Where did the Holocaust come in???! When someone clearly does not want to answer a questions, it usually means something. Love was Jesus's true passion, maybe to Christians. But he sure did not die for me.
Date: 3/2/2004 7:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 20575    Sassy, why WOULD you Blame the Jewish people? Firstly, it was the Romans. Secondly, it wasn't like the ENTIRETY of one race or religious group said "Let's Crucify Jesus!" That's why the movie is so misleading. The Gibson family loves to point fingers, and that's obvious. Why SHOULD anyone blame the Jews? Well, why not? They're (we're) blamed for everything else under the sun.
Date: 3/2/2004 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 56176    GREAT POST;JESUS DIED FOR OUR SOULS THAT WE COULD HAVE A HEAVENLY HOME ,HE LOVED US AND GOD LOVED US THATS WHY HE DIED THIS IS A GREAT POST ,THANKS FOR SHARING IT BUT THANK JESUS FOR DIEING FOR US AND GOD SENDING HIS ONLY SON TO DIE FOR US ,I BOOK MARKED THIS THANKS I RATED IT GREAT.
Date: 3/3/2004 10:56:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Starfox, you are right. Many people seem to want to blame the Jews for all the world's ills and they have suffered greatly for it down through the ages. They do not deserve the way they have been treated, but one day G-d will even up the score..
Date: 3/3/2004 3:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 31531    Great post.Haven't seen the movie.I already know what Jesus went though for us.I think some people don't understand just what Jesus went though and this will hopefully help them.I feel some people need too see it why I don't know.I think it really is neat that you are learning Hebrew and finding how beautiful other people are. Thanks again for your post>>>>HUGS>>
