This is for you and your precious kitty Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together |

Date: 1/20/2004 10:02:00 AM From Authorid: 26733 I put my dog to sleep last year. He was barely able to walk and he would just go to the bathroom everywhere. So we made the decision to put him to sleep. Sad thing is that he knew what we were doing. When the doctor pulled out the needle he started shaking and crying....such a good dog...hes free now. The odd thing about this story is that when we got home after we put him to sleep there was a big puddle in my family rooom, looked like my dog went to the bathroom on the floor. The odd thing is we cleaned everything up before we left and it wasnt there. I know he is still watching me. Have a good day Matt aka |
Date: 1/20/2004 11:40:00 AM From Authorid: 62408 Yes. I have. In 1998, we had to put our beloved dog (or should I say person with four legs and fur) to sleep. I was devastated. It was the same year I was first diagnosed with depression. But she was old, had vision troubles, bladder troubles, and we knew that her quality of life wasn't the same. It was almost as though she was hanging on for our sake. So we decided to put our own feelings aside, as heart-breaking as it was, and let her go with some dignity. The vet who she saw was very kind, and let my parents stay with her as long as they possibly could (they couldn't handle staying to the very end, but stayed until she was in like a twilight zone of sleep). I still miss her, and September 9th still marks a sad day in my mind. But we had another dog at home, Honey...and she helped ease the pain. Sadly we lost Honey this June to cancer, but a few years ago, we had gotten Sandie, who oddly enough, has the so many characteristics of Mindy, that if I believed more in reincarnation, I'd think that our Heinz 57 mutt came back as a golden lab/collie mix. It's odd. When Honey died, Sandie fell into depression, and a few months later, we welcomed Jewel into our home, who again, oddly enough, has the same mannerisms as Honey. So its like while each dog has their own personality, you can still feel the spirits of the ones who have gone on to doggie heaven. (Even though I'm Catholic, and they say that animals do not go to heaven because they do not have souls, I do not agree with this. I believe that the compassion animals have, their sixth sense, etc. They have to have a soul to some degree, just not the same as ours.) I'm so very sorry about your kitty, and it is such a difficult decision to make. It will hurt, but know the best thing you can do for him is give him a way out of his pain. Take him to the vet, see what the vet reccomends. I'll pray for an alternate solution, but if it comes down to the other, I'll pray to give you strength. Feel free to message me if you ever want to talk about it, I'd be happy to listen. And know that if he does go up to kitty heaven, he'll be watching over you from even there... where catnip is in great supply along with a great big litter box, kitty treats, and all his favorite toys. *HUGS* Take care... and remember, I'm here if you need a shoulder to cry on. We may not know each other personally, but I want you to know you're not in this alone. Christine-3 |
Date: 1/20/2004 1:43:00 PM From Authorid: 62367 Take your baby to the vet ASAP. The vet will be able to make a diagnosis and maybe can help your kitty. You and your mom can't really tell all thats wrong with your pet. If the vet says your kitty has to be put to sleep, do as the vet says. I've been through this many times now. It is never easy. The last time I had a kitty put to sleep I lost my companion of some 18 years. I walked out sobbing. I also picked up a new kitten from the local humane society. Getting another pet does not replace the one you lost but it does save another life and gives you a new baby to learn to love while you grieve. |
Date: 1/20/2004 1:58:00 PM From Authorid: 62503 i have put one of my dogs to sleep but i hardly remember her. my last dog that just died it was a terrible mistake, and it was weird sleeping without an 80 pound dog in your bed. but then we got a new puppy |

Date: 1/20/2004 3:04:00 PM From Authorid: 17014 Mrs. Strider-- I love knowing that place exists. VAB- I had to put down my Siamese cat, Sanka, when I was 17 and it was hard-- Sanka was 3 years older than me, so I grew up with her by my side. I cried hard when I put her down, but I knew it was for the best. She'd no longer be in pain and that's what made me let my parents put her down. Do yourself and your cat a favor and hold your cat as they put him down. He'll go to the Bridge knowing you loved him as much as he loved you. |
