Date: 12/26/2003 1:42:00 PM From Authorid: 19092 I celebrate the birth Of Jesus, the Son of God, and the gift of our salvation...not the birth of a "prophet"... |
Date: 12/26/2003 2:10:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 So do I, King. I celebrate the birth of the Son of God and the promised Messiah, Jesus. I'm not sure what you meant by a prophet. Hanukkah has nothing to do with the birth of a prophet. It's in rememberance of a miracle that God did for the Jewish people a long time ago. God gave them a wonderful victory over their oppressors in which they reclaimed and cleansed the temple. After cleansing the temple and throwing out all the symbols of false gods which their oppressors had placed there, the priests relit the eternal flame which is never supposed to go out in the temple. However, there was only enough oil to last for 1 day. The oil, through a divine miracle of God, lasted for 8 days until the journey could be made to obtain more. Email me. |

Jesus HIMSELF celebrated Hanukkah (which is the Ffeast of Dedication". We read in John 102-23 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. |
Date: 12/27/2003 6:27:00 AM From Authorid: 19092 Thanks for the info Songbird. I never knew that about Hanukkah. My comment was meant for Mormans. I've been seeing alot of there ads on TV this year, at this time, and the ads are great until the end where they call Jesus a "prophet"... |
Date: 12/27/2003 11:23:00 AM From Authorid: 15070 KC is it really necessary to confront those who believe differently than yourself? Mormons (and others) are entitled to their beliefs, which are as valid as your own. I am glad that you find Jesus Christ to be your King, and personal Savior. But, not everyone does. It is one thing to share your faith & testamony, and another thing to attempt to invalidate someone else's beliefs. Especially here is USM's RELIGION section. |
Date: 12/27/2003 11:27:00 AM From Authorid: 15070 BTW-Songbird. I love Hanukkah celebrations. (I feel silly because on another posts I just asked you if you celebrated Hanukkah this year I could eat potato pancakes all year round. It would follow that if Jesus is the "Living Word" that inspired the Bible, than he would be the one to create Hanukkah, if you will. I think the Historical fact of there being enough oil in the Temple Lamp, until the Runner could return with more, shows the deep promise of a personal God(dess) who cared enough to show His(Their) presence in the Temple. |

Date: 12/27/2003 11:36:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 All those wonderful old Jewish customs should still be observed by Christians, in my opinion. |
Date: 12/27/2003 2:22:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 Ugg...I mean "blow" on Holidays. Typos..:P |
Date: 12/27/2003 2:22:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 I agree, Song Bird. When I was a member of the "Fellowship With Christ" Church (A John Birch Society Affilate & Christ Church offshoot), we also celebrated the Jewish holidays as our way of celebrating the Jewishness of Jesus. I can still bake homemade braided bread from scratch, (and I do for the Feast of Tabernacles.) My Minster had a Shofar that he would brow on the High-Holidays. The Jewish faith, in my opinion, has such beautiful teachings & customs. |
Date: 12/27/2003 3:43:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 Since I discovered Judaism, LSG, a whole new wonderful world has opened up for me. I see things in a totally different light now. |
Date: 12/27/2003 4:31:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 Oh, I believe it! If you have not yet done so, you have to go & hear a Cantor sing in a Temple. Even though the words are in Hebrew, I get chills up-and-down my spine. The song(s) seem so old & mysterious. Anyway, thanks for listening. I hope you will share some of your new experiences with the Jewish Teachings. Love....... |
Date: 12/27/2003 4:58:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 I go to temple regularly and I HAVE heard a cantor sing, lol. I am studying Hebrew and learning the services. I can sing right along on many of the songs and prayers now in HEBREW. LOL |
Date: 12/27/2003 5:25:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 How wonderful! |
Date: 12/30/2003 6:18:00 AM From Authorid: 19092 What-ever LSG... |
Date: 12/31/2003 4:03:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 I've always been drawn to Judaism which is where Christianity originated. I have not given up my faith in Jesus. I've just gone back to find out how He Himself worshipped, and gained so much. It's been a glorious experience for me. The rabbi and the congregation where I go make no demands on me. They just allow me to come as I am and enjoy Judaism. It's all about love and deeper understanding. |
