HOW CAN PEOPLE JUST THROW LOVE AWAY

How can people just throw love away,
And treat the world's most precious gem as cheap?
We purchase our own loneliness, and pay
With broken dreams and plans we'll never keep.
How can we simply toss true friends aside
Because of one harsh word or careless deed?
Why do we choose to let contempt abide
And reap the harvest of that bitter seed?
Oh, how can we so soon depreciate
The love of parent, sibling, spouse or friend?
How can we gives our lives away to hate,
And shatter fragile hearts that cannot mend?
Why do we carry bitterness around,
And curse our sad existence day to day?
When one kind word can tear the barriers down...
