when i had to do poetry for our arts in action group, or for an assignment, I would just always write whatever I was feeling at the time. Write whatever is in your heart. I know that sounds goofy, but it works and it will come out fine |

When I write poetry it comes from the heart. It comes from situations thats going on at the time in my life. I right about things personally to me, its a way of expressing myself. I can't just write about anything I see like trees or a car, etc. its hard for me but very easy for others. Most poetry if you read it is something personally to the writer. Happy, sad, whatever. Good luck..if you need any help, let me know. |

You can write about something that you are very passionate about. For me, one thing that I'm passionate about it Psychology and Mental Health, problems with how the mentally ill are treated. Anohter one that bothers me and gets me fired up is child abuse and neglect. Think of what BURNS you up, or gets you soooo PUMPED! That will make it a lot easier to write about because you will be about to write and write and write. It might also impress your teacher if you wrote about an issue but arguing both sides which shows that you are not single minded! I wish you lots of luck. Let us know when you win the contest, LOL! HUGS! Love, |

One of the most creative poems I've ever read was about writers' block. A friend of mine was sitting at a blank page for hours and finally she just wrote about forcing the pencil to move and picking the corners of her brain. Anyway, the best writing always comes from an inner need to say something. Don't write to try and make the words eloquent or to impress anyone. Write a piece that expresses an idea or a feeling as poignantly as possible...and then maybe you can brush it up in the second draft (although chances are you won't need to). |
