Date: 10/12/2003 11:17:00 AM From Authorid: 16671 Personally I do believe that you need to ask God to forgive you once you sin after accepting Jesus as Lord and savior. And as far as being righteous, we are according to God, 2Cor:51: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' So were NOT righteouse in ourselves but we have been MADE, our spirits, righteous through Jesus. Sure God expects us to try and we do try, try our best. I see that there are many types of christian, 1. those whom accept christ and at the time with tears and weeping, yet never spiritually go any futher. YET they still believe. 2. Those that have accepted Jesus, try their best to preach His word, try their best not to do things that are wrong, but still mess up, still ask to be forgiven everytime they mess up and have Jesus in their hearts strong, even tho they mess up. 3. Those that have accepted Jesus, and think they are holier than the rest of us, because they can control their sin better, they show up in church more, yet they are so heaven bound they are no earthly good. What I mean about that is while they walk the walk and talk the talk in public and at home, you wouldnt catch them helping the homeless, walking up and preaching the word to someone because God told them to at that moment, *embarassing to them* or walk up and ask to pray for a person because God said to do it NOW. You wouldn't catch them bringing a bum into their home to feed them a meal and God forbid they take clothes out of thier own personal closet to give to someone that needs them. Sorry if I sound disgusted, but I'm by that type of person. I guess I fit more in the number 2 mode then I do anything. So many people look at what a christian is doing wrong that they cant see what the christian is doing right. I personally believe that one does not have to go to a churh before any man made alter, to repent or ask to be forgiven for what they have did, as one can do that anywhere anytime, I don't feel that one has to weep and cry before men, in order for God to hear or see them and this is what disturbs me is ones that DO *not all* but some that do go before the church to do this, just for show. I cry my tears before God. Sure I have before men, but its odd to me that some of these people go all week without shedding a tear and asking for forgivance yet come sunday morning they make a great show of it. NOT all, but some. I agree, america is far from Gods grace as it use to be. Because America is turning from God to follow after pagan gods. |
Date: 10/12/2003 11:55:00 AM From Authorid: 10915 I do not believe that "once save always save" theory. I believe that forgiveness of sin isn't instantaneous as many tend to view it. I believe that although salvation is given, it is something that you have to continually work towards. Once you commit a sinful act, you must confess that sin and to work on not committing the sinful act anymore. Yes, God is a merciful God who extends his merciful grace towards all, but at the sametime, he doesn't exclude punishment for those who continue to willfully sin either. |
Date: 10/12/2003 12:15:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 Firstborn, some so called Christians do things in church just for show as you said. They will have to answer for their deception. Those who try with all their hearts and mess up...that is where grace truly fits in. It takes over when our strength and our endurance gives out. The problem I have is with those who aren't trying at all...don't think they have to. |

Although I too believe in "once saved always saved" and agree that we need to continually go to God for forgiveness of our sins and confess. If we don't, we're missing out on being filled with the Spirit and other blessings God has for us. Even Jesus Christ, in the Lords Prayer, included repentance... |

I guess the one good thing about it is that God tells us to work out our own salvation. I guess I'm of the people that believe "Rom:10: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom:10:10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."" To me this is what ALL that has to be done to be able to enter into the kingdom of God. To me, even the ones that are not trying to be something on the outside that they just cant be, YET still believe that Jesus died for thier sins, still have Jesus in their heart, STill will put the smack down on you if you bad mouth their savior, WILL go to be with the Lord. I mean these people may not attend church, or do any of the things that the *religiouse sect* think that they should be doing, but we don't know if they are doing the things that seem to be most important to God and that is to LOVE, feed the hungry, cloth the naked, take care of the orphan, Certainly God gives us in the bible, examples of what we should do as far as our flesh is concerned and we should do the very best that we can, but only God is the judge of what is in a persons heart. WE can not go by looking on the outside cover. We can only go by their words. For Jesus said, Mt:12:37: For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." This is one reason why the select few here on usm that say, your not acting christian like, and things of this nature to me, I don't let it bother me, because GOD knows my heart and God knows my works and that is all that matters. |
Date: 10/12/2003 2:39:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798 Actually, guys I only posted this thread here because I felt it might be too controversial for the religious section and might offend somebody. I don't like to debate...not at all and I don't intend to now. I like to just state my opinion and let it go at that. Everybody's entitled to their own. |
Date: 10/12/2003 3:15:00 PM From Authorid: 10915 This is a good and healthy debate Song Bird. I understand what you mean by not wanting to offend others. However, the debate section tend to get a bit out of control at times. However, I don't see this post as one that will go in that direction. Good post. |

Song bird, I think I understand your point, but we must be careful, for the blood of Christ covers all sins, even those not confessed. I don't believe this is the forum to discuss this, as for this gives many the impression we are saved by our works, rather than the blood shed by Christ. Paul covers the issue of cheap grace in Galatians. We will always struggle with our sinful nature, as we still have our flesh, those who are born of the new spirit, will recieve help and more conviction of sin, so we must not make and issue of who is really living Holy and who is not..." For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and the measure you use, it will be measured to you"....... Matt 7 So be careful not to jump to conclusions before the Lord returns as to whether or not someone is faithful. When the Lord comes, He will bring our deepest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. And then God will give to everyone whatever praise is due.... 1 Cor 4:5 God Bless U. |
