What Sense Does This Make? **Frankenstein

  Author:  47699  Category:(Discussion) Created:(9/23/2002 7:06:00 PM)

I've written a couple of things about fast food places recently and this is yet another one. It seems that there is always something to complain about where they're concerned. The topic of this post is something which is just beyond my comprehension. I'm sure we've all heard the old business adage, "Find a need and fill it." That makes good sense so why do these fast food super-monsters just ignore it?

If I owned a restaurant and I made something which everyone loved and bought a lot of, why on Earth would I ever stop selling it? The answer is, I wouldn't. To do so would be foolish. That's my way of thinking, anyway. If I owned a hardware store and sold a lot of barbed wire to farmers, what would ever possess me to make me stop selling it and start selling rope instead?

Many years ago, Burger King sold a hot ham and cheese sandwich called 'Yumbo'. I really liked those and ordered them often so of course, they stopped selling them. Similarly, Taco Hell had something called a 'Bell Beefer'. It was just a hamburger but I could order one with refried beans on it. That might sound weird but I liked it. That, too, is a thing of the past. It seems like everybody loves McDonald's McRib sandwiches so why do they just sell them for about one week a year? I'm amazed that they ever have them at all. Long John Silver's used to have the most awesome cold seafood salad. I just loved that stuff but they haven't had it in years. I recently heard that they started having it again so I went there a couple of days ago. It had been such a long time and I was soooooooo ready for one. I was told at the counter that they did have them again but not anymore. What? What kind of sense does that make? Let's stop selling what the public wants and start selling some crap like 'wraps' and other strange things. The LJS experience is what made me write this post.

Have you had any similar experiences? Is there anything that you can't get anymore and really miss? What would you like to have again?

Date: 9/23/2002 7:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    a Viking Sub Shop taco salad... yum!! I drool thinking about it Unfortunately, I will never have one again... they closed about 10 years ago ( I never understood why they do that stuff either... Another one that befuddles me is that they're making all the fast food "healthier"... if we wanted "health"... we wouldn't be eating fast food PERIOD! Give me back my saturated fats!!! LOL
Date: 9/23/2002 7:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Yeah, I don't necessarily think of fast food restaurants when I contemplate having a healthy diet. LOL!
Date: 9/23/2002 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    Yeah I mean I used to be able to buy my freedom whenever I went on a killing rampage but I can't now because the government won't do it anymore. So know I have to actually bury the bodies, opps which reminds me, I've gotta couple of carcases decomposing in my portaloo.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    I liked the Yumbo too LOL and the chicken sandwiches they originally had before all the fancy ones My son loves the McRibs I have found some frozen ones that are almost as good. I have more of a problem with stuff from the grocery store like shake a pudding, space food sticks and the squeeze bag Aunt Jamima corn bread and Koogle spread I love the vanilla peanut butter kind
Date: 9/23/2002 7:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Mrs. Strider, I loved those chocolate astronaut sticks but I was sure that I was the only one who would ever remember them. It's good to know that I'm not alone. There used to be this stuff in cans called Lunchables. I can't remember who made them but the ham salad was awesome. I used to be able to buy the sloppy joe stuff in cans with the meat already in them.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    I remember the salad things they had tuna and chicken too you can get big cans of the slopy joes with meat at GFS
Date: 9/23/2002 7:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    I'm not sure but Lunchables may have been made by Libby's.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Oh yeah, I had a frozen 'fake McRib' last night and it was so horrible I couldn't even eat it. I took about two bites and threw the rest away.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    I think so too or Hormel speaking of Hormel remember Frank n stuff hot dogs I loved them to
Date: 9/23/2002 7:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Were those the ones with cheese in them?
Date: 9/23/2002 7:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    the chile in the middle
Date: 9/23/2002 7:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 49498    I remember they used to make this really good Ice Cream called "Muddy Snowshoes". It was so darn good, Im craving a batch right now. But then they stopped making it, much to my dismay. I remember when Jack n a box had a Big Cheeseburger for 99 cents. You could be hungry and on the go, and you could buy one and it would fill you up. I went there about four months ago and they either jacked up the price, or stopped selling it. Either way, I didnt come out with it. In fact, I didnt come out with anything. Oh well. I hate it when they do that
Date: 9/23/2002 7:38:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Oh yeah! I'd forgotten all about those.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:38:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Whatever happened to Mr. Pibb? You can still find it in a few restaurants but I haven't seen it in any store anywhere. I don't think they make Fresca anymore period.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    I used to be able to buy ice cream sandwiches which had mint ice cream but I haven't seen those in years. We found some recently which were round but they weren't the same. I couldn't even taste the mint. If it hadn't been green and said 'mint' on the box, I would have never known that was what they were supposed to be. All I could taste was the chocolate wafers.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    there is a website that sells some stuff you can't find in stores but I can't remember the name let me think for a couple days
Date: 9/23/2002 7:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Okay, Mrs. Strider. Just don't hurt yourself. LOL!
Date: 9/23/2002 7:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    I really miss chicken littles from KFC so does my kid I loved those!!! they were little tiny chicken sandwiches
Date: 9/23/2002 7:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    i dont remember the yum thing at BK...but it sounds yummy
Date: 9/23/2002 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    and the Chicken Delight franchise I loved teir chicken dinners and mini sandwiches
Date: 9/23/2002 7:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    CB, they had to stop making those when animal rights activists forced them to stop raising those tiny, freakish chickens. That's what I heard anyway. :O
Date: 9/23/2002 7:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    I liked Bojangles but it's a thing of the past. That's the way it is here at least. That was the greasiest chicken I've ever had in my life but it was good. I liked the dirty rice as well. Sure, they dropped the rice in the floor but at least they were honest about it.
Date: 9/23/2002 7:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    That reminds me. There was a place called Ollie's Trolley and they had the best French fries and raspberry milkshakes. Oh well...
Date: 9/23/2002 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    LOL Frank all those places and foods gone and the stuff that took their place yikes
Date: 9/23/2002 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 57452    I miss the 'Nachos Bellgrande' from Taco Bell.
-the meat.

Date: 9/23/2002 8:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    They still have Nachos Bell Grande at the Taco Hells around here but they're more expensive and you could easily fit two or three of them in a thimble.
Date: 9/23/2002 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    Oh I know what you mean. Like Wendys and thier mushroom cheddar burger. OMG thats so good and they never sell it anymore
Date: 9/23/2002 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 57452    Awww...where I live there are no 'Nachos Bellgrandes.' The TB here (DC/MD/VA area.) just has "nachos" with disgusting orange cheese. Remember when a real big size of anything wasn't meant for one to say "Upsize" that or give me a "Biggie Value Meal?" The fast food use to come loaded with what you wanted without asking to quadruple the size & pay an extra $1.00 for it??
Date: 9/23/2002 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    Did Ollie's Trollie have seasoned fries? My uncle used to own a little trolly-car restraunt in Windsor called Trolley Burger... they used "trolly" seasoning on everything... it was sooooo good!
Date: 9/23/2002 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    they go with the flow...here are a few words from Neil Young from Saterday's farm aid..."ATTENTION SHOPPERS...save the family farm...pure organic, nothing added foods, stop fueling the government's factory farms, and filling yourself with God knows what...The organic foods from farmers markets are so much more delicious and healthy, natural." Ok, not exact words, but close...basically, the fast food chains are trying to keep in with the ever-changing tastes of restless ever-evolving Americans. Don't conform, reform...it may take more to prepare your own meal, than by a nasty burger, or wrap, but in the long run, your body and tastebuds will thank you for it...*hoping off of borrowed Farm Aid soapbox and running for exit sign* ~SpaceCase
Date: 9/23/2002 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    that's *hopping off*
Date: 9/23/2002 8:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 57452    LOL with S¤C!..
Date: 9/23/2002 9:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 52358    cheddar lovers bacon cheeseburgar,at wendy's
Date: 9/23/2002 9:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Yes, Mercury, they did. SC, I understand what you're saying but have you ever noticed that the organic stuff in the grocery is about six times the price of everything else? A little bag of potato chips for five dollars? Nope! Eggs for four dollars a dozen? Nope! It may not be exactly what we want but mass production can do a lot to beat exhorbitant prices. I guess I can overlook a few chemicals if I have to. If all I wanted was just a little tossed salad, I know that I can go to Wendy's and get one for a dollar. If I want to make it myself and go to the grocery store to get all that I'll need...well... By the time I buy lettuce, carrots, tomatos, cucumbers, cauliflower, broccoli, dressing, croutons, saltines and whatever else, I've easily spent twenty dollars for a bunch of stuff which will mostly go to waste. That's sad but it's true. On the other hand, if I had twenty people to feed, I could do just fine that way. All of these companies act as though there is no such thing as someone who lives alone and only two people never, ever live without a dozen other pigs in the house according to them. Why are most of the coupons only for crowds? Why would two people ever want two large pizzas or an extra large with wings and breadsticks? What are we supposed to do with that? An extra large pizza box won't even fit in the refrigerator. Why can't there be more coupons for fifty cents off a single hamburger or something like that that I'll actually use?
Date: 9/23/2002 9:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 42519    Popcorn Chicken from KFC!! What is wrong with those people!!!! I totally agree with you frank.. 100%! Love ya tonz
Date: 9/24/2002 5:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 38278    I loved the McRib sandwich.
Date: 9/24/2002 5:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    I like the artic orange milk shake that Mcdonalds sometimes has ,but I never seem to get one when they have it LOL
Date: 9/27/2002 5:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 19460    i liked the Super Hero burger McDonalds had about 7 years ago... remember that one?? I could eat half and save half for later! It was like a McRib shaped bun, with 3 hamb. patties, 3 different cheeses, lettuce, tomatoe... everything! And they said it was only to promote Batman And Robin movie How cruel!!!!
