Death Row Inmates: Can they be "live" organ donors for their family members?

What i mean exactly by the title is, i know in order to be an organ donor, you have to be pronounced "brain dead" by numerous tests done by a physician and on life support so the organs can be viable, but this cant be done with inmates due to the way the execution is carried out. On the other hand, "live" organ donation could be. Live organ donation is when you donate an organ to a family member who needs it and you, the donor of course is still living, (i.e donate a kidney to a sister, or a piece of the liver to a nephew) (It is just more possible to donate an organ to a family member since they are related) Do you believe "live" organ donation is ok, since death row inmates are going to die anyways or do you believe its extremely unethical??? Tell me your opinions.

Date: 6/17/2002 11:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    well it's debate so you can't delete sorry I'm in an odd mood tonight hmmmmmmm are you saying...say i have a brother who did horrible things...is put on death row...and i need a kidney yet hes the only relative who matches my type and can donate. so HE donates an kidney I live he goes back to jail and all? is that what you mean? they already do that there was a story a few years ago of a father doing that for his daughter no I don't have problems with them doing that I will tell you I have problems with the death penalty though but that's a whole nother debate in itself LOL
Date: 6/17/2002 11:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48129    Becky, =-p, LoL, nooo, please lets not go into the dealth penalty debate, lol well we could actually, im not sleepy right now, lol
Date: 6/17/2002 11:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    Yes, I believe that it's ok, if it's the only choice that you had.
Date: 6/18/2002 12:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 7830    I think whatever the inmate wants to do in that situation is up to them.
Date: 6/18/2002 12:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 55066    Death penalty is a scary reality in this world today, and I'm so happy to live in a country where it doesn't exist.. errr.. that was not the question was it? I think it would be ok, why deny that inmate to perform a last good deed?
Just my two cents.. Take Care / Clouded
Date: 6/18/2002 12:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    i say bring back the roman coliseum and put them all in it
Date: 6/18/2002 12:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 55194    I think it's ok. They took someone's life and then through an organ donation, they give someone else life. ~Avar Merithien
Date: 6/18/2002 6:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 25438    OK I was gonna comment, but I am afraid that you will get "p'oed" so nevermind
Date: 6/18/2002 6:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 19345    I think what it comes down to is no matter what a person does and is in jail they have the right to be treated humanely no matter what. Thats what makes us supposeitly different than animals. If the operation would leave them suffering like if you took their kidneys and they couldn'tlive I would say no its inlhumane to make them suffer but maybe their could be a method of exuction that would leave the organs in tact where they could be used. They have the right I think to do one good thing before they leave,no?
Date: 6/18/2002 3:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    sluggo the human race is an animal
Date: 6/18/2002 4:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    Unless they sign a release WILLINGLY, then I find it preposterously and disgustingly unethical.
Date: 6/18/2002 10:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48129    LoL, BlueKnight, you are entitled to your opinion, what i meant by being "po'ed" is if anyone says anything inappropriate and ends up causing this post to be deleted and i have to end up rewriting it, I then would be po'ed...get it? lol
Date: 6/18/2002 10:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48129    Of course Persphone, its something that has to be willingly. Even though they may be inmates, they still have decision on what they do with their bodies.
Date: 6/18/2002 10:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48129    Sluggo, you wouldnt be able to take BOTH kidneys, lol If someone donates a kidney or a piece of their liver, they can survive and lead a normal life and not suffer.
Date: 6/19/2002 8:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    The idea of death row donors is fine as long as the death row inmate has the choice. There is another problem though. No one I think would like to know that they have the heart, kidney, liver, of a murderer inside them - even if it saves their life. Maybe it's OK for their family, but strangers no unless it's anonymous. It would be like the murderer is living through you. That's just my opinion and how I would feel. :¬
Date: 6/19/2002 6:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48129    Well author 54987, the death row inmate would ONLY be able to donate to family, the best match would be WITH the family, not complete strangers and of course it would be with permission, LoL
