In ancient Egypt, cats were killed as part of worship rituals. FALSE! Just the opposite! If you killed a cat, you were put to death immediately! --3. During the Middle Ages all over Europe, the cat was honored and praised. FALSE! During the Festival of St. John, cats were even burned alive in town squares! They were associated with witches and evil things. --4. In Great Britain people believed that black cats bring good luck. TRUE! This is just the opposite of what we're accustomed to hearing about the much-maligned black cat. --5. The very first cat show was held in London, England. TRUE! It was held in 1871 at the Crystal Palace of London. --6. President Dwight Eisenhower was one of the most cat loving presidents to ever live in the White House. FALSE! The exact opposite is true. In fact he banished cats from the White House and ordered his staff to shoot them on sight if any came onto the grounds. Really, now Ike! How could you! --7. The largest litter on record consisted of 19 kittens. TRUE! (holy meows!) They were delivered in August 1970 to a four year old Burmese named Tarawood Antigone.
