well in my opinion, they loose all their rights when they become inmates, if you do the crime then you do the time and all priviliges are gone as far as I'm concerned, especially these two...cheers |

Oh..It's ok to do drugs, rape, and to deceive others, but it's against their religion to trim their beards..How convenient..Perhaps if the raper had been castrated as he deserves and the impersonater would have to worked long hard hours to pay into an attorney fund for the poor and to pay money into a fund for children who are hooked on drugs because of drug trafficking, then they wouldn't have so much time on their hands to find such trivial matters to complain about..They rebelled against society on the outside and they are attempting to do the same on the inside..Some laws and people are so ridiculous.. |

NO WAY!!! They have too many as it is... It is NO wonder that some criminals dont mind going back to prison because they have it good in there... In fact, there are some hardened criminals that have it better and are treated better than a lot of our law-abiding citizens... Sad huh? ShadowGhost, GREAT poem sweety!! Love and huge hugggggggggs...... |

You are so right! Convicted criminals have it made in prison. They learn the ropes real quick! They have access to school, college education and degrees or trades, they tie up our legal system with bogus filings because it is their right, they get three square meals a day and learn how to commit bigger crimes. I'm not talking about 1 mistake but the career type immates. They seem to have it better inside than many do outside the prison walls. Just burns my biscuits thinking about it! |

It's like with all this uproar you read in the paper every day about the Al Quida (sp?) and their "rights" (ones being held in Guantanamo). Those guys are being treated far better in most areas than they ever were in Afghanistan! Rumsfeld has repeatedly said that the people he wanted brought to Guantanamo, would be the most hardened, the worst of the lot, those that would have the most information, most dangerous, etc. Now, I don't know about you, but, other than basic HUMANE treatment of these killers, i.e; food, housing, medical, and providing the Koran for them, and such, I do not think they have any rights! They're getting far better treatment than they would get in any other country at that! AND.....Just WHERE in the sam hill is all the interest; all the outcry, all that "rights" stuff when it comes to prisoners being held for various reasons in OTHER COUNTRIES that have political prisoners!!?? America is always in the eye, in the CENTER, and is blamed/accused for everything coming down the pike! Now, here in our prison system, Shadow ghost, I am afraid you are right; I wish people could really go and take a good look into how prisoners are treated. I've known a few "white collar" criminals who had money and good lawyers who knew how to work the system. Many prisoners can get college degrees; very often many study LAW just enough to learn how to work around or get their case DELAYED, appeal after appeal, or dropped on some ridiculous "technicality". I've seen documentaries and read specific cases of the many frivolous and insane complaints; and lawsuits filed. It's outrageous. All the time, I was thinking : HELLOOOO! YOU'RE IN PRISON! You guys are not staying in a 5 star hotel, where YOU are paying $1,000 a day! P R I S O N. Oh, one last thing: It amazes the heck out of me how many prisoners "suddenly" get all religious when they get behind bars. It's like they soon latch on to a way to get more attention; and all of a sudden the most hardened, violent bad guys are "Mr goody-two-shoes". |

You want to know why they get religious all of a sudden? The inmates get more visits cause the church's want to redeem their soul! Plus, the church provides these criminals with money and other things. The preacher will write letters on their behalf and contact people for them. They will take them to church on a pass etc. It's so inane!!! |

You know..This is really close to home for me..My hubby is in prison (for the second time, not to mention the two rehabs before this). For some reason when he is locked up, he gets into religion really hard. He is in trouble because of burglary of a building, then when he couldn't stay away from drugs and alcohol they sent him back. Now he is trying to tell me that when he comes home I will have to attend church, because he can't go down the path he has followed before. Now I am sorry, but he made the choices. He can make the right one, he can make the wrong one. Whether in church all the time or not. I agree that inmates try and hide behind religion once locked up, but when they get back to the free world, they forget all about it! Great question. |

In my opinion, NO one should have RIGHTS in prison... ummm didn't they prove they cannot handle rights??? They couldn't handle the responsibility of having rights, so well take them away!!!!!! |

IMO they already have too many rights. and as far as religion goes if they were so religious, why did they commit the crimes they are in prison for? |

Many get religion because their crimes were such that a parole board would have a hard time ever believing that such a person ever had redeemable qualities. They feel that if they can show the system that they have turned over a new leaf, that the system will be kinder to them. A lot of parole boards have caught on to this. There are two prisons and a work release center within 10 miles of my home. The two prisons have facilities that 30 years ago would have been unheard of in a prison. There is a technical school near one that caters strictly to inmates who are within a few years of getting out. I pass the work release center most every day after work, to find the inmates jogging, playing vollleyball, basketball, or osme other sport, or just laying out sunning themselves. They have usually just finished their evening meal. They leave the center about the same time I go to work in the morning, and have already been fed and are enjoying quality time when I come home in the evening. If they reaaly want corrections, then make these places more like a boot camp or military training facility. Take away all these luxuries. ...<Warrior Spirit> |

I appreciate all the great comments here! I posted this not because I believe prisoners should have no rights, religious or otherwise, but because it is darn near impossible to find any sympathy when some of the those who whine the most about their RIGHTS are the very ones who violated others, such as the prisoner who commited rape. My opinion is this guy is looking for a "bleeding heart" response to further his own agenda. Even Jeffery Dahmer got babtized in a prison bathtub. Like Thinker stated, criminals are in prison for heinous crimes against society, I don't suggest they be made to live like dogs, but to hear the hue and cries, one would think they and their supporters expect us to forget about their VICTIMS. Funny how they wear religion according to environment. |

And think about this - it's the tax payers money that pays the lawyers to defend these "prisoners' rights"... |

why shouldn't they have to live like dogs? ok, maybe dogs shouldn't be used as the best example. i know some ppl that treat their dogs better than their kids. but i think the prisoners should NOT have tv, exercise equipment, decent food, or anything else. i know i sound like a real b....witch but think about this. the ppl that are in there for murder. the person they murdered don't have tv, food, etc.... so why should the prisoner? the ppl that rape well.......they should be treated like a dog. a male dog. and have to be neutered. or, there's always the "lorrana bobbit" vascetemy! |

Moma Bug, I tend to agree, I am usually a calm, well mannered person, at least I think I am, fairly well educated, but all nothing gets my blood boiling more than murder, rape, assault and the one that really sends me over the edge is child abuse, like Ali said it makes me mad just to think of tax dollars being wasted on some of these people. I recently read of a case in Alabama, where Michael Taylor was captured, after confessing to killing an elderly couple who did nothing except let him use their phone, this was a pretext just to get into their home. He beat the elderly husband so badly he had 17 splits in his skull. His wife had at least 10 and there was nothing left of her left eye. She lived for a few days after that brutal attack, probably by sheer will to name her attacker. Point is he was sentenced to death on capitol murder charges and is on death row in Atmore, Alabama. He watches Tv, plays volleyball. writes on the internet, he has 4 web sites! On these sites he descibes Atlanta as being BARBARIC, RACIST, and PREDJUDICE! If he ever is executed it will take 20 years of appeals to happen. Why did he so it? For their car and a little money. That elderly lady lay for 3 days before being found beside her dead husband, in pain and crying, I can never imagine what she went through before she died. This is just the tip. |
