What Are USMers Supposed To Expect From Each Other?

Hello all :) This idea was sparked by a discussion on abortion my sister, Corvus, and I posted last weekend. The inapropriate replies, that were more like opinion bashing and insults, were deleted. But it got me thinking. So, here -where the world revolves around opinions- I would like to speak my mind.

Have you noticed people take so personally the opinions of others? I recognize they just want to protect the feelings of those who may be truly offended, but once they reply, and if the author replies back disagreeing, both sides treat it as a fight, pulling low blows and attemting to discredit each other untill one gives up, or, in our case, deletes the replies and refuses to fight.

The people here are real people, and can we really be expected to walk on eggshels even with our opinions?

We are told we can speak our mind here, but is that limited to what one or two other people may think someone else may find the slightest bit disturbing or offensive?

"Rated G" means no rude or inapropriate language, not "sit down untill you're ready to make friends with everyone that may or may not be here"

Date: 3/28/2001 3:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 26265    Most of us dont agree with each other. BWe can argue, "but" only in a non-rude aka friendly way, lol. We argue, but are still friends in the end ~Rane~
Date: 3/28/2001 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 8224    I've always believed it would be best to treat people the way you wish to be treated, but lately (for some time now) that hasn't been the trend - seems there are a lot here with chips on their shoulder - erase that- try fully stocked lumber yards! My advice is to pick your fights carefully and keep a list of those who are constantly rude while remembering an old saying, "Silence is Golden" - saves on headaches and fights while helping to maintain one's peace of mind. Date: 3/28/2001 3:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 28899    I definitly agree with a good debate, it's when it gets to immature things like "only a moron like you would say that!" and spellchecking. And thanks for your comments, I knew I wasn't alone
Date: 3/28/2001 3:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 23207    I always try and be tactful with my replies. If I offend someone I didn't mean to. As I have said before, we all have different opinions and nothing can change that. The only thing I expected to get from this site when I joined was a way to share my poetry with others. Instead I have gotten some people that truly wish to see me make things better in my life. That was definitely more than I expected. I am glad I met them. Give it time, you will do the same. Date: 3/28/2001 3:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 28899    Tact is essencial. But not all people here think before they reply, and end up starting fights just to prove their credibility that really isn't there. This post is for them.
Date: 3/28/2001 4:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 26203    I believe everyone is intitled to their opinion,
but some post really get to me, but I don't like to agrue so I don't say anything because I don't wish to be rude.I like to treat others how I wish to be treated.lately there has been so many believing that their opinion is the only way that and if you state yours they get offened that really gets to me.

People that can say what they feel but don't want to hear what you have to say!! really boils me up!! my mother- inlaw is like that lol lol but now I have gotten to the stage where I tell her, mum I respect your opinion, but this is my take it or leave it, she starts crying no win situation can anyone tell me how do we deal with people like that!!

love koala
