Just A Bird?

You might ask, "Why would you post a message about a bird?" Well, it is because I owe so much to a bird's mom. When I was 7 or so I found a small bird, placed it into my shirt and took it home with me. It had been my first bird in about 5 years, so I was excited. We decided to keep it, I forgot what we named it but it doesn't matter. One day, we made a small cage for our bird, it didn't have a lid yet and so the top was open. That day we were to who knows where, my mom told me to close all the doors in the house. At that time, I was stubborn and lazy, so I decided not to close the door that led the bird's cage that was laid on my bed. We had a dog then, he ate almost anything and hated small creatures, like cats and squirrils. When we came back from our small trip we found our dog, Comet standing next to our bird, I stopped dead in my tracks, then raced to the situation. There laid a small bird, both wings cut and seemed to have broken bones. We tried to care for it, but the whole day it shook and didn't fly. I figured out that the bird escaped from its cage and flew down the stairs, there Comet had attacked it and nearly killed it. The next day, I awoke to find my sister crying on the bed. I asked what was wrong and she told me that our bird, died. That moment I knew it was my fault that it died, it had died a painful death because of me. It had been my fault that the poor bird died. And now, at the age of 12, I still remember that day, the day I felt so guilty. That is why I wrote this message, to tell about my sin, my bad deed, and I know, I could never make it up to that poor bird, or its mother.
