May couldn't believe what she was seeing. She felt a strong presence of evil lurking within the room. She heard Thomas call her name, he was back from placing the books in their bedroom. He found her in the hidden library and looked at it in awe. He asked May what the room was and why it was there. That's when may pointed out the Witchcraft books. This terrified him as his blood ran cold.
He walked into the room and glanced around the room; the beautiful furniture was enough to give an eyesore. Where did the witchcraft books come from? Whose where they? This was one thing that was adamant that the two of them find out.
May and Thomas turned to exit the door, when in front of them a figure stood out from the shadows. The darkened silhouette took a step closer and into the lantern's light. An eerie tone rung out among May and Thomas speaking,"What are you two doing in my room?" May and Thomas stood as stiff as two boards on a wooden fence.
May was totally baffled as the shadow stepped closer. It couldn't be, or COULD it? May stared into the man's face in disbelief. "Fa- father?", May asked as she saw the man appear into the dim light.
The man looked at May curiously and spoke, " I did it all for you, May. And you leave me no choice. I have only entered this room in the many years since the plantation has been built; no other soul has ever trespassed. You have disrespected my boundaries and now you both shall pay the penalties- of DEATH!"
May started crying as she screeched, "WHY? Why are you doing this?" Thomas grabbed on May's fragile, shaking arm in hopes to quiet her.
The man, quite shocked at the intensity of May, spoke harshly, "Do you think he would kill you? I left you everything and I can take it all away! Do not test me, child. You have no idea what you are up against!" May and Thomas shrunk back, deeper inside the library, the only exit blocked by the towering, evil man.
"He? You aren'my father? Wh-who are you", asked May, as if she were a small child.
The man, enlightened by their fear and also by her questions spoke with great pride, "Your father wouldn't have ever had the guts to pull off what I have been able to. You see, May, your father never knew about me; for I was cast away by our mother at a young age. I am your father's twin brother Daniel Cray. But when I came to this small town, there was something that people noticed about me. They called me John and spoke to me as if they were my best friends. I enjoyed the attention. The night of your parent's deaths, I enjoyed the best. I went to the barn, grabbed the mallet, and then hit your mother with it. Your father tried to stop me; he was a very stupid man. After your mother was taken care of, I tied him up, as I told him about taking his life away like our mother took mine and I threw him off the bridge. I even took care of the Hendrix'; they were a nice family, which brought forth an insurmountable anger within me. And now I shall take your lives too."
Thomas was highly agitated at the man and said," This is MY family, now. YOU will not take anything from me!" Thomas ran towards Daniel, but didn't even get to lay a blow. Daniel hit him over the head with the bloody mallet, knocking him out cold.
May shivered, for she knew she was next. She begged for him not to hurt her, because she was with child. Daniel lurched forward, as Thomas grabbed his leg, and fell on his face.
"RUN, May! Go!", Thomas shouted at May, in fear for her safety. It took May a few seconds to convince her legs to move. They felt limp and heavy. She finally got them to move and she was in full stride out of the library, knocking over the lanterns, passed through the torture room and out the hidden door. She stopped when she heard Thomas scream. Looking back, she knew he was gone, and she had to save herself.
She saw a bright red glow within the torture room as the flames from the room licked the walls. She knew she had to get out of there or it would be her demise. She ran out of the plantation's front door and stood there staring up at the house covering itself with flames.
Her heart sunk to the bottom of her stomach when she realized that Thomas wasn't coming out. The house has again taken someone away from her, someone she truly loved.
It was then movement came from the front door. It was Thomas. He was badly injured and bleeding but he was going to be okay.
May smiled and tears flooded from her eyes, as Thomas' handsome face came into view. She held him tighter than she had ever held him before. She knew they were finally safe.
May and Thomas moved into the house that Helen built from the inheritance money from May. They lived long and healthy lives happily in the house and had 3 children.
The plantation completely burned down with the exception of a small prayer room in the back of the house and the stone columns, that today still stand.
