My first apartment

When my first daughter was 3 months old I rented an apartment. The house was used as the servants quarters in the 1800's. The main house was across the driveway. I first started noticing my three month old daughter smiling and cooing at the air. She would laugh like someone was tickling her when I was in the kitchen and she was in the livingroom. At first I just chalked up to her being a happy baby. Kaitlin's bedroom was 20x20. Her crib was on one side of the room and there was a spare bed on the other side of the room. One night I put her to bed. She woke up in the middle of the night and I went in and gave her a bottle. I went out into the livingroom and watched t.v. I heard he sqeaky toy and assumed she rolled over onto it. I went to bed and when I went in to get her in the morning the bottle and the squeaky toy were both lying on the bed on the other side of the room 20 feet away. Too far away for a three month old baby to throw even if she had had the coordination to throw anything. I was a little freaked out but I just forgot about it. After that I would lie in bed at night and hear someone walking in my kitchen. My daughter and I were the only ones living there. One weekend I had a Christmas Party to go to so I asked my 18 year old sister to stay at the house and watch Kaitlin for me. She did and brought a couple friends with her. They sat and played cards and ate chips and made a big mess and a pile of dishes in the sink. When I came home her friends were gone and she told me she would never babysit for me again in this house. Apparently while they were playing cards and messing around one of the girls tossed a pencil towards the bathroom and it came flying back at them. Her friends were freaked out and left. She was there alone and was scared to death. That night she went home and my boyfriend, who had gone to the party with me, stayed the night. My bed was to small for the two of us so I pulled out the sofa bed and we slept there. From the sofa bed we had a perfect view of the front door. The door had a big window in it and we could see outside. On the outside there was a screen door. I woke up about 7:30 in the morning because I heard I noise. I looked at my boyfriend to see if he was awake and he was looking at me. He was listening like I was trying to figure out what the noise was. We sat up and looked toward the front door where the noise was coming from. The door knob was turning back and forth like someone was trying to come in but we could see through the window that no one was there. The screen door was closed. We watched it turn back and forth and I said quietly "oh my god what is that?" He just looked at me terrified and frozen. When he didn't answer me I yelled "WHAT IS THAT?" As soon as I yelled the dishes in the sink started to slam around. Kaitlin started to cry in her room and it stopped. I got up and took care of her and when I was done I did the dishes. Some of the glasses were broken. After that day I only had a problem with noises and dishes clanging when the house was in disarray. We figured it must have been one of the maids that once occupied the servants quarters. She wasn't happy unless the house was clean and as long as it was I never has a problem. Not long after I moved in with my boyfriend. I drive by the apartment often and there is always someone new living there.

She probably had lost a child too or was also the caretaker for the children. Which would explain her concern & care of your baby. I would've stayed there. If I'd had company over I would have just made an annoucement prior (when only I was there) that I would clean up any mess made & that she shouldn't concern herself and to maybe ask her to watch over the baby during the party or when I had company over. I'm sure she would have gladly.
